A house of the past
Long ago Rennie also lived in a house filled with old things. You might say brocante, but at the time her décor was comprised of dark, oak furniture and an old club chair. Today she lives in a very old house filled with a décor that is completely the opposite of what she had before, namely light and breezy. Photography and text: Margreet Frens.
We met Rennie thanks to her daughter Renske. She contacted us with a couple of photographs and an amazing story about the charm of her mother’s house. When we first saw the photographs we were immediately sold. So soon after we met the two of them in the cosy backroom of Rennie’s house that originally dates back to 1880. “I worked not far from here and often came past this house that triggered me somehow. It had been for sale for over two years and I often found myself peeking through the windows. But oh my, the overdue maintenance!” Still, Rennie was unable to resist the place and purchased it. As a proud owner she and her other children, Cornelis, Sjoerd and Sybren, get to work. “Absolutely everything had to be taken care of. The kitchen was incredibly old, there wasn’t any central heating and a wooden floor had to be installed. And yet, the funny thing was that the house also gave back because during the remodel these old doors resurfaced that I still use today!”
