Italian Elegance
It is very difficult to imagine what mysteries this nineteenth century villa in Novellara – a small Italian village in the province of Reggio Emilia – could have hid before the astonishing restoration. It is equally difficult to imagine that it was just a young couple during a weekend hike that saw and fell in love with such beauty, so in love they decided that this would be their first home. Behind those old wood shutters they imagined spaces filled with light and large glass windows. Text and styling by Francesca Davoli. Photos by Fabrizio Cicconi/Living Inside.
However, when they finally managed to see the inside of the villa, they were a bit disappointed: the walls where covered with plaster and cheap paneling, the beautiful metal staircase was painted with brown enamel. And then many of the original doors had been replaced, as well as the floors (the original ones were found buried in the garden, completely abandoned at the time). After the initial disappointment, they decided to fullfill their dream, and work against the damage caused by a reckless restoration.
